Description:
The surface of the moon is not really gray. On a very large scale, the surface of the Moon displays subtle colors that depend on the type and relative abundance of minerals present. Iron-rich areas are dark red, while titanium-rich areas are blue. These color shades are too faint to be seen by the naked eye, but can be enhanced with special moon image editing techniques, mainly image stacking and color saturation. Basalt stone is also found in abundance on the moon. Beneath most of the moon's surface, basaltic lava flows. After ancient meteorites hit the surface of the moon due to the thinning of the surface, basalt lavas made their way to the surface and covered huge parts of the surface of the globe. These basaltic and dark regions of the moon are known as the seas of the moon.
