Description:

A wide-field image of NGC 1499, The California Nebula captured from my backyard. NCG 1499 is a large emission nebula in the Constellation Perseus. It gets the name of The California Nebula due to the shape of the clouds of ionized hydrogen gas that resemble the US State. NGC 1499 is about 1,800 light-years from Earth. This image is was made from 92individual subs each 180 seconds in duration for a total exposure of 4 hours and 36 minutes. All pre and post processing was performed in PixInsight.
