Description:
Planetary nebula NGC 2438, appears within the apparent borders of Messier 46 in the southern constellation of Puppis. This object lies near the northern fringes of the cluster. However, NGC 2438 is most probably not a true member but is superimposed, or perhaps a passing "guest".
