Description:

This is NGC 253, The Sculptor Galaxy (AKA Silver Dollar Galaxy). It’s one of brightest galaxies visible in the night sky and is located 13 million light-years away. It’s so bright because it’s a starburst galaxy, meaning that it’s undergoing very high rates of star formation. It’s a very dusty galaxy, and this abundance of cosmic dust feeds the high rate of star formation.
