Description:
It continues to be overcast (marine layer) in La Jolla, almost every night! This image of NGC 6822 ("Barnard's Galaxy") was shot remotely from the iTelescope.net 622 mm reflecting telescope in Auberry, CA, which is in the Western Sierra about midway between Yosemite and Sequoia. NGC 6822 is a barred irregular galaxy, 7000 light years in diameter and approximately 1.6 million light-years away, in the constellation Sagittarius. It was discovered by E. E. Barnard in 1884 and is one of the closer galaxies to our Milky Way.
