Description:
NGC 281 is also known as the Pacman Nebula for its resemblance to the video game character. It is a bright emission nebula, part of a Hydrogen II region in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia, and is part of the Milky Way's Perseus Spiral Arm, and is estimated to be 9200 light years from Earth. Edward Emerson Barnard discovered the nebula in August 1883, describing it as "a large faint nebula, very diffuse." This image was captured over a 3 week period of time, using narrow band and broad band filters and the 8 inch reflecting telescope in our Backyard Observatory. Processing is in Foraxx Palette using Pixinsight software.
