Description:
NGC 1528 is an open cluster visible in the constellation of Perseus. It is located in the northeastern part of the constellation, just under 3° north of μ Persei, along a heavily obscured but still rich stretch of the Milky Way galaxy. It is a rather rich and dense cluster, with good contrast against the background sky. Its distance is estimated at around 1500 light-years from the Solar System, placing it near the outer edge of the Orion Arm, a short distance from the OB association Camelopardalis OB1. NGC 1528 has an angular diameter of 18 arcminutes, an apparent visual magnitude of 6.4, and an estimated age of around 300-370 million years. NGC 1528 was first discovered by William Herschel in 1790 using an 18.7-inch reflecting telescope.
