Description:

SMC with 47 Tucanae globular cluster in upper right quadrant...Peering deeply into the SMC reveals stars that may have been utilized by Henrietta Leavitt to develop the "period luminosity" relationship yardstick from which to measure the distances to globular clusters and nearby galaxies. The SMC is a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way only 17 deg. above the SCP, and 210,000 LY away.
