Description:

I had been planning this photo for almost a year, after discovering that the area where the Perseus Double Cluster is located is very rich in ionized hydrogen, even if extremely faint. To create this picture, 3 telescopes, 2 cameras and 3 different filters were used. In fact, the stars were imaged in broadband with the Konus at a focal length of 950mm (which required a 2x2 mosaic to have such a wide field) and the background of ionized Hydrogen was partially imaged by me with the refractor ED80 and color camera and partly by my friend Alessandro de Pace with his Askar FRA600 and monochrome camera. In total, we collected almost 70h of signal between broadband and narrowband.
