Description:
The planets Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, photographed on January 21, 2025 with the same camera setup, which makes it possible to compare the very different brightnesses of the planets. At the time the photo was taken, Venus and Jupiter were the two brightest planets, followed by Mars, which had been in opposition to the Sun and close to the Earth a few days earlier. Saturn was significantly less luminous, as the ring system of the gas giant appeared close in edge-on position at the time of observation, which greatly reduced the planet's brightness. The two ice giants Uranus and Neptune as well as the large moons of the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn could also still be detected with the selected camera setup. For comparison bright stars of the winter sky are shown.
