Description:

The image was remotely captured under the dark skies of Chile. The main subject is the bright star Rigel, one of the most luminous stars in the constellation of Orion, whose intense light illuminates the striking Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118). Also visible in the field is another reflection nebula, NGC 1788, embedded within a dust-rich interstellar region known as LDN 1616. The latter is also referred to as the Bat Nebula. This collection of celestial objects creates a fascinating cosmic panorama, where starlight interacts with diffuse space matter, giving rise to extraordinary structures and stunning color contrasts.
