Description:
This photo of the Running Chicken Nebula was taken over multiple nights from Kagga Kamma Remote Observatory in South Africa. Shot with an SQA85 and QHY268Pro C and because of the high brightness of the target and the incredible bortle 1 skies we managed to achieve this with just over 7 hours of Ha/O3 and 2 hours RGB for the stars. The Running Chicken Nebula is an intense star forming region with beautiful wispy clouds, hard cliffs, star clusters and something new to me, Bok Globules, named after astrophysicist Bart Bok. These little knots are fascinating, incredibly dense clumps of gas and dust which may burst into star forming or just dissipate quietly and we have no way of knowing which it will be. They are also some of the coldest regions in the entire universe.
