Description:

Sh2-101, is also called the Tulip Nebula, because it has been likened to a field of tulips. It lies in the very rich star and gas field of the constellation Cygnus, and, while normally very colorful, it was more so last night because of smoke from the nearby Apple Fire and the very bright, nearly full, moon. SH2-101 was first described and catalogued in 1959 by John Sharpless, and, although not really a part of it, is where can be found the strongest x-ray source in the known universe, known as Cygnus X-1, and an associated black hole.
