Description:

Sh2-96 is an extremely faint emission nebula in Cygnus. It is known as The Scarlet Letter Nebula and just like the letter in the novel "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the letter in this nebula is a scarlet capital A. The brighter portion of the capital A is also designated as Lynds Bright Nebula (LBN) 066. Exposure times were 18.5 hours of hydrogen-alpha data and 2.75 hours of RGB data for a total exposure time of 21 hours, 15 minutes.
