Description:
SH2-170 is an H-II region in Cassiopeia. Although the H-alpha signal dominates, there are also emissions from S-II and O-III, making it possible to produce a tri-colour narrowband image. This image uses the CFHT palette, assigning H-alpha to the red channel, O-III to green and S-II to blue. Thus the magenta regions are where H-alpha and S-II are both present, while the gold colour near the core results from O-III mixing with H-alpha. North is to the top-right corner of the image, which represents 36 hours' exposure through each filter. All processing was carried out in PixInsight. Equipment: Planewave CDK-14 scope, 10Micron GM2000 mount, FLI Proline P09000 CCD camera with Astrodon 3nm filters. Imaged from the IC Astronomy remote hosted site in Oria, Spain. Full-res TIFF available if required.
