Pentax K-x DSLR at ISO 1600; stack of 80% of 100 images taken at 30s exposure time at prime focus of a Skywatcher ED 120/900 mm refractor on HEQ-5 mount; unguided Image stacked and preprocessed with DeepSkyStacker; fine tuning with Photoshop.

By chance, I took this image of the supernova M51 shortly before the discovery image had been taken. This is one of my first successful attempts in galaxy photography.
