Description:
The sun from our backyard this afternoon. The Solar News for today (from EarthSky.org): Solar activity remains high thanks to the prolific sunspot region AR4098. After kicking things off yesterday with an X1.1 (strong) flare at 1:52 UTC, this region followed up with a powerful M8.9 (moderate) flare at 16:18 UTC. It also produced a cluster of C-class (common) flares. The activity from dominant region AR4098 produced several narrow coronal mass ejections (CMEs), but analysis confirms these will pass ahead of Earth’s orbit and not impact our magnetic field.
