Description:

NGC 3576 is a spectacular star-forming region in the Sagittarius-Carina arm of the Southern Milky Way. It is located in the constellation of Kiel (Carina), about 9000 light-years from Earth. With an outstretched arm she is holding the torch, and if you look closely, with a little imagination, you might think she is wearing a crown (but that’s just gas and dust being zapped by high-energy light from massive stars). Within the nebula there are very active star formation regions which contribute to the complex shapes and looping filaments surrounding her.
