Description:
Stock 23 (also known as the Pazmino's Cluster) is a bright, medium-to-large (15-29') open cluster in the constellation of Camelopardalis, although a Cassiopeia boundary runs right through its center. It is immersed in a faint H-II region (Sh2-202) and numerous dark LDN nebulae, and contains about 60-70 stars, some of them blue and red giants. In the March 1978 issue of Sky & Telescope magazine, in the article "Deep-Sky Wonders," Walter Scott Houston referred to the "discovery" of this cluster, which did not appear in any star catalog or chart of the time, by amateur astronomer John Pazmino. Stock had referred to this cluster in 1950, later calling it Stock 23, but it was forgotten until Pazmino "rediscovered" it, becoming a target of observation for many amateur astronomers since 1978.
