Description:

The "Strawberry Moon", seen here through an extraordinarily heavy layer of high atmospheric smoke due to wildfires in Ontario, looking remarkably like a fully eclipsed Moon in the middle of the Earth's umbra during a particularly dark eclipse. The left image shows the Moon much as it actually looked, so dim that you had to look in its direction to even notice it. It was 14º above the horizon, where under normal conditions it would have been a brilliant yellow-white and dominated the sky. The right image is brightened by 3 stops to better show the striking color.
