Description:

I was lucky enough to capture these sun spots on a nice clear afternoon a week or so ago. They are caused by intense, concentrated magnetic field flux that inhibits convection. This causes these areas to be thousands of degrees cooler than the surrounding photosphere making them apear darker than there surroundings. These active, often pair-forming regions are the source of solar flares and coronal mass ejections.
