Equipment:

Image recorded with a Stellarvue 102ED refractor and a modified Canon XS DSLR guided on an iOptron iEQ4 mount. The stack of 15x150second sub frames were aligned and stacked using ImagesPlus and PS5.

Description:

The open star cluster M46 in Puppis has some hidden gems within its mass of over 500 suns. Two line of sight exploded star remnants are visible to those with sizable telescopes or with long exposure images. NGC2438 the brighter planetary is a mere 3000 light years distant and visible in smaller telescopes. The faint stellar corpse PK231+4.1 is also in the same field of view.
