Description:

It's the Andromeda Galaxy's time of the year...visible all night long. Although several dozen minor galaxies lie closer to our Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy (AKA M31, or Messier 31), at 2.5 million light-years away, is the closest large spiral galaxy, and the most distant thing we can see with the unaided eye -- you'll need a dark sky, though (e.g. a moonless night in Alpine).
