Description:

The Beehive Cluster, M44, is an open cluster in the constellation Cancer. It is one of the nearest open clusters to Earth at a distance of 577 light years. In 1609, Galileo observed the Beehive through his telescope and Charles Messier added it to his famous catalog as M44 in 1769. The Beehive Cluster was high in the Eastern sky off our deck at about 9:30 pm PST this evening.
