Description:
The Broken Engagement Ring (also knwn as Sachariassen 1) is an asterism, i.e., simply patterns of stars that are composed of members not physically associated with each other, located just 1° west of the 2nd-magnitude star Merak (Beta Ursae Majoris), the bottom right star in the Bowl of the Big Dipper. The asterism contains a semicircle of physically unrelated stars ranging from magnitudes 7 to 11, covering a diameter of about 15’, and it was described for the first time in a issue of Sky&Telescope Magazine.
