Description:

Sir John Herschel found difficult “to convey a full impression of the beauty and sublimity of the spectacle offered by this nebula…” The Carina Nebula harbors the luminous, massive, irregular variable star Eta Carinae, first recorded by Edmond Halley in 1677, which astronomers now believe could eventually explode as a supernova in the near future.
