Description:
This is the "Mexico and Central America" portion of the North America Nebula, NGC 7000 in Cygnus, otherwise known as the Cygnus Wall. Lynds Dark Nebula 935, in the upper right corner, provides a black "Gulf of Mexico" region for the North America Nebula. The Cygnus wall exhibits compression of a large cloud of molecular hydrogen driven by intense solar winds. George Herbig determined that the star producing these solar winds must be hidden behind Lynds Dark Nebula 935. The Cygnus Wall is the region of the North America Nebula with the highest concentration of new star formation and lies 2,590 light-years from Earth.
