Description:
IC 63 (also known as the Ghost of Cassiopeia) is a mixed reflection and emission nebula, visible in the constellation Cassiopeia, approximately 613 light-years away from our solar system. IC 63 is illuminated by the light emitted by the star γ Cassiopeiae, a very hot, young, irregular variable star with a radius 14 times that of our Sun and 50000 times more luminous. IC 63 has a triangular shape and optical emissions dominated by a red color interspersed with bluish filaments. The nebula is slowly dissolving under the influence of the violent stellar wind emitted by γ Cassiopeiae.
