Description:
From our campsite in the Palomar Observatory Campground, using our ultra-portable SeeStar S50 Smart Scope, we imaged the Iris Nebula (also known as NGC 7023), a bright reflection nebula located about 1,300 light years from Earth in the constellation Cepheus. The nebula is six light-years across and . is illuminated by a very bright central star, part of an open cluster of stars. The nebula was discovered in 1794 by Sir William Herschel. The image consists of over a thousand 10-second exposures (that's what the SeeStar does!) collected between 10 pm and 3 am, while we slept, and processed this morning in Pixinsight software.
