Description:
My first HDR moon image! Thanks to the late Alyn Wallace and his tutorial on how to create an HDR image using a properly exposed moon image with an image exposed to show Earthshine, I used two images I took of the moon occulting the Pleaides star cluster from our astronomy club's property out near Joshua Tree National Park (during the early morning of July 20, 2025). Taken with my Nikon D7500 through a Tamron 150 - 600mm lens at 600mm (ISO 160, f/8 - 1/50 sec for sunlit crescent, 5 sec for Earthshine on unlit portion). I set up the camera/lens on my AM5 telescope mount and set the tracking for lunar - it worked great! Not a perfect image by any means, but I'm really happy with the way my first HDR moon came out.
