Description:
The Moon passing near the Pleiades (M45) was captured on December 13, 2024. Such close encounters between the Moon and the Pleiades occur only a few times a year, offering a rare opportunity to photograph these celestial neighbors in the same frame. The colors of the lunar surface on the image were specially enhanced to reveal the mineral composition of its surface. The reddish-brown hues indicate iron oxide, while the blue hues represent titanium oxide. The phase of the Moon at the time of shooting was 96%. Also on the image you can see diffraction rays in the form of a “cross”. This is due to the construction of Newtonian telescope.
