Description:
As we close out 2024, I’d like to share my latest image of Mars and the Beehive Cluster (M44) in Cancer. Nine separate images were taken between November 28 and December 26, 2024. Mars typically moves quickly from night to night; however it was stationary on December 7 as seen near the bottom of the arc of motion. Shortly thereafter, it started its retrograde motion towards the constellation Gemini near the top of the image. Each image was taken with a Canon R6 mark II and a Canon 100 mm f/2.8L lens. Processing was done using Lightroom, Nebulosity and Star Spikes Pro.
