Description:

Messier 101, the Pinwheel Galaxy, is found in the constellation Ursa Major. This luminance image details the spiral structure of the galaxy, which contains many NGC objects. M 101 was discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781 and was added by Messier to his catalog.
