Description:

The Ring Nebula or Messier 57 discovered on January 31, 1779 by Antoine Darquier de Pellepoix with an achromatic refractor of 11cm in diameter and focal ratio f16.8. He described it with these words: "Nebula between Gamma and Beta Lyrae; it is very opaque, but perfectly delineated; it is as big as Jupiter and looks like a planet that is vanishing"
