Description:
NGC 225, or the Sailboat Cluster, is an open cluster visible in the constellation Cassiopeia, estimated to be 120-130 million years old. NGC 225 was first discovered by Caroline Lucretia Herschel in 1784 through a 4.2-inch reflecting telescope and reported to her brother William. His son, John, re-observed it and later included it in his General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters under the number 120. NGC 225 is a loosely concentrated open cluster estimated to be around 2142 light-years away, located in an area within the Orion Arm, a short distance from the cluster NGC 133 and the Cepheus OB4 region. Along its line of sight extends a system of nebulae located in the foreground, among which the dark nebula LDN 1297 and the reflection nebula vdB 4 stand out.
