Description:
The sun's been pretty busy lately, so I decided to get an image, just about noon today with the sun high in the sky. Here's the latest Solar News from EarthSky.org: A huge blast of sun-stuff erupted over our star’s northeast horizon yesterday evening. The event has been connected to a large flare recorded on that horizon. Flare activity has otherwise been held at low levels over the past 24 hours. [I saw only a few very small flares -- see inset below the lower margin of the attached image.] The Earth-facing solar disk currently shows 6 numbered active regions [Of which, I saw and labeled 5 in the attached image.] Active regions AR4399 and AR4401 are the largest currently in view, and they could deliver a surprise at any moment.
