Description:

Tonight's Super Blue Full Moon rising over the mountains behind our Alpine home. This Blue moon is a blue moon not for the usual reason, the second full moon in a month, but, because it's the third of four full moons in a season, with a single season being defined as the time between a solstice and an equinox. Those moons carry the name Blue Moon as well, albeit Seasonal Blue Moon. And the August 19 Blue Moon is more. It’s also a Supermoon, in fact, the first of four full Supermoons in a row. A Supermoon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit (called perigee). This makes the moon appear larger and brighter than usual.
