Description:
This image documents the entire course of the total lunar eclipse on September 8, 2025. The eclipse lasted for nearly an hour and a half from totality to the end of umbral shadow. The Moon gradually darkened as it entered Earth’s umbra and turned red due to atmospheric scattering. From left to right, the photo shows three key stages: Third Contact (End of Totality) – 02:53 Maximum Eclipse (Greatest Eclipse) – 02:12 Second Contact (Beginning of Totality) – 01:30 At maximum eclipse, the Moon was completely immersed in Earth’s shadow, displaying a striking deep red hue — the reason total lunar eclipses are often called a “Blood Moon.”
