Description:

Not your normal-looking galaxy. This galaxy is known as a flocculent spiral galaxy because its arms are made of patchy segments, not long, continuous spirals like you see in most other galaxies. It also lacks a strong central core of dense, bright stars. It contains large regions of new star formation, represented by the clumpy bluish and red/pink areas. In the lower part of the galaxy you can see a noticeably concentrated red/pink area that lies inside the galaxy. This is a nebula with its own designation, NGC 604. The Triangulum Galaxy is 2.7 million light years away in the constellation Triangulum.
