Description:
Fortunate luck, I was observing with a calcium filter equipped telescope when an X1.9 flare erupted on the Sun, and then watched over the next 30 minutes or so as it faded. The flare was extremely bright on the computer screen so I had little doubt it was an X flare before I saw the NOAA space weather posting.
