Equipment:

Nikon D800 with Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens for the sun and Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 lens for the froeground image. Microprocessor-controlled timer set to GPS time. White light solar filter.

Description:

This composite image was made at Zion Canyon National Park on 5-20-2012. I was familiar with the location and verified the chance alignment using altitude and azimuth data obtained from NASA's web page, and verified in Google Earth and followed up with a scouting visit one month before the event. My home made timer set to GPS time synchronized the exposures to coincide with the predicted local time of maximum eclipse. The foreground image was obtained during twilight and combined in PhotoShop. NOTE TO EDITOR: I realize I passed your 150kb limit, but at greater compression there were excessive JPG artifacts that destroyed the image.
