Escambia Amateur Astronomer's Association
Operating under sponsorship of the Natural Sciences Dept. at Pensacola State College since 1977, the EAA meets monthly on campus. We have a very active FaceBook group, with 3,000+ participants posting observations and photos from all over the world. We host deep sky gazes monthly throughout the year at Big Lagoon State Park, in cooperation with the Florida State Parks. We hold summer beach gazes at the Pensacola Beach Pavilion in cooperation with the Santa Rosa Island Authority. We also host school gazes, scout Merit Badge workshops, and informal gazes at our StarLight Drive In Theatre, near the Airport as weather permits; thee are announced on FaceBook hours in advance. We are planning major club activity for the Total Eclipse in April 2024, and distributing thousands of Eclipse Viewers for the public in preparation for upcoming solar eclipses. The proceeds of these sales are supporting the Merry Edenton-Wooten Endowed Chair in Space Sciences through the Pensacola State College Foundation, in support of public planetarium programming in our Space and Science Theatre.
