As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.

Introduction to Amateur Astronomy

The Kalamazoo Astronomical Society is pleased to announce that its five-part lecture series geared toward people new to the hobby of amateur astronomy returns on January 17th. The series will again be offered online via the video conferencing service Zoom. Admission is FREE but those interested in attending are asked to register through our website.
Registrants will be provided with the Zoom webinar link, along with comprehensive guide for each installment of the series. Those participants that attend ALL FIVE parts will receive a Certificate of Completion.

January 31st Discovering the Night Sky
February 14th Binocular Basics
February 28th Telescope Tutorial
March 14th The Art of Astrophotography
Approximately 2,900 people from around the globe have registered for the three previous installments since 2021, and 573 of them received a Certificate of Completion by attending all five sessions.
