As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.

Meteorites in motion: Dark Flight Modelling and Flux Estimates from NEO data
Meteors refer to the luminous phenomena that occur when objects from space enter Earth's atmosphere: but how can we predict where these meteorites will land? This talk discusses modelling the so-called 'dark flight' of meteorites (the final stage of a meteorite's descent through the atmosphere), and everything that goes on behind the scenes during a meteorite hunt! We will also discuss meteorite flux modelling and the distribution of objects in the asteroid belt.
Chloe Kadir is a 2nd year PhD student in the Planetary Science group at the University of Manchester. Her research is focused on the dark flight of meteorites (i.e. The final stage of a meteorite's descent through the atmosphere), and she is currently working on reducing uncertainty in existing dark flight models.
Chloe completed an integrated master's in physics (MPhys) also at the University of Manchester. She is passionate about public engagement —and in her spare time works at Jodrell Bank's Centre for Engagement as a Science Explainer.
