Description:
There are places where astrophotography takes on a whole new meaning. The Coureleiros Megalithic Park is one of them. This photograph was taken at one of the five dolmens that make up this megalithic complex, built around 5,000 to 6,000 years ago. It forms part of one of the most important megalithic necropolises in Northern Alentejo. The megalithic period marks a defining chapter in human history, when communities gradually abandoned a purely nomadic way of life, embraced agriculture, and settled permanently in the landscape, leaving behind enduring traces of their presence. It was during this time that the great stone monuments were erected, not only as burial sites, but also as places of memory, identity, and the expression of the first organised communities.
