NGC 1365 is one of the finest examples of a barred spiral galaxy. It is nearly face-on to us and presents loosely spread spiral arms. At magnitude 9, it is bright enough for the central core to be seen as a dim, round glow in 7 x 50 binoculars with the aid of averted vision.
