Description:
The Cygnus Loop is a large supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus, an emission nebula due to a stellar explosion that occurred around 21,000 years ago. I spans 130 light-years (ly) across and is located 2600 ly from Earth. It's too large for me to image in one telescope field, but this image, from data that I collected on August 11 in Julian, includes the Western Veil, also known as the Witches Broom (upper right of photo), and Pickering's Triangle (center left).
