Description:

This is planetary nebulae season and is hard to decide what to look for and image. Many choices, some easier than others. But there are a few nebulae and planetary that are always a pleasure to image and a beauty for their colors and shapes. M27, the Dumbbell nebula located in Vulpecula, is one those diamonds of the night. At an estimated distance of 1,360 LY, and about 9,807 years of age, it shines at magnitude 7.5 and spans 8' of the sky.
