Description:
Processing some unprocessed data from the past few years. Here is an image of the Dumbbell Nebula (Messier 27, M 27) a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula, at a distance of about 1,360 light-years. Planetary nebulae consist of ionized gases emitted by dying stars, and this was the first planetary nebula to be discovered (in 1764 by Charles Messier). It is bright enough and large enough to be visible in binoculars, and is a popular observing target in amateur telescopes. This data is from July 30, 2016, and was obtained via the 150 mm refracting telescope at iTelescope.net's Nerpio, Spain, site.
