Description:

This is the Eagle Nebula, catalogued by Messier as M16, and located in the constellation Serpens, discovered by Jean-Philippe de Cheseaux in 1745–46. It lies 5700 light years from Earth and is approximately 9.5 light-years, about 90 trillion kilometers across. I've removed the stars to enhance the detail, particularly in the center of the nebula, the area made famous by the Hubble Space Telescope as the Pillars of Creation (https://www.nasa.gov/.../2017/messier-16-the-eagle-nebula).
